LaGrange, GA., May 16, 2023 – Be Pro Be Proud Georgia (BPBP GA) provides kids, ages 13-17, simulations in 16 careers through their mobile workshop. BPBP GA rolled onto the THINC College & Career Academy campus for a two-day stop starting Monday, May 15th. Students had the opportunity to try professions in commercial truck driving, healthcare, plumbing, welding, and automation & robotics. Cassie, one of THINC’s Student Ambassadors, stated that she “enjoys seeing people try new things because not a lot of people think, ‘Oh, I’m going to like truck driving’ or anything with Wellstar.”
To determine which professions and skilled trades went into the mobile workshop, Tour Manager Reggie Lagrone says, “A survey of the 15 of the higher paid skilled trade jobs in the Metro Atlanta area, and we just chose a few of the simulations based on those skilled trades.” Cassie concluded, “It’s very important for people to experience things like this because it will teach them that you don’t only need a four-year college to be successful… That’s very important for younger people to know while growing up.” Jamiaya, a THINC Student Ambassador interested in chemistry, can also see the value in BPBP GA. She likes Be Pro Be Proud GA because “It lets students know what they could do in the future.”
Three students participating in the simulations, Aubrey, Serenity, and Jaiah, are all interested in healthcare. Serenity, who was practicing hand-eye coordination skills, has plans to become a General Surgeon. As Wellstar sponsors Be Pro Be Proud Georgia, it opens the medical field to students. GA Power sponsors the Virtual Reality simulator, containing “Ten to twelve different training modules that are interchangeable.” Lagrone added that BPBP GA is “Always looking for sponsors to help sponsor our unit because we are private, not federally funded, and local sponsors are encouraged to help steer our students in their direction.”
Be Pro Be Proud Georgia mobile workshop is expanding and will see a new 53-foot mobile workshop this fall. Lagrone says the new build “will include an excavator, game simulation, a bigger commercial truck driving simulator, and more healthcare.” The current mobile workshop will continue to travel around Georgia.
